“It’s not a war that she began,
but it’s a war she will end.
Sworn to protect the throne, which her heart resides on.”
— -A Peace of Lovelace [Heart of Dahomey]

After a bad break up, I felt as if I had lost myself. I forgot how to be the strong woman I once was before a lover came into my life. I needed to find a piece of myself that I had let go and in order to do that, I had to find peace within. I was searching for serenity in the eye of a storm that I went half on to create. Repeatedly, being pushed in and out for what seemed to be a never-ending storm. I told myself it was time to start my healing process and to put all my trust in God and the Universe. My faith led me to let go of situations I had no control over and also to accepting apologies that I never would have received.

Trying to heal oneself is not a “walk in the park” for the majority of people. My goal is to help guide those souls to rebuild a piece of themselves by giving them a piece of me, Lovelace. Documenting the good, the bad, self-forgiveness, self-love, self-healing, and self-discovery in my poetry book.

Channeling my indigenous family roots, I began burning sage to remove any negativity that had intervened with my mind. From unwelcome energies flowing in my home to cleansing my aura, and even my son’s toys. Because, “They need deep cleaning Mom!” Smudging has helped me and my family in ways I can only imagine and I pray to the Universe it can help you too.
